7 Facts About CBD for Dogs that May Surprise You

We all love our little furry friends, even with all of the growing pains they force us to endure with them.

One thing’s for sure, raising a pup isn’t all the furry cuddles and slobber kisses that you think it’s going to be. It’s a lot of work that results in the ultimate payoff—a best friend that loves you unconditionally.

There are many reasons that people explore the option of CBD for their pets.

We all go through the same process which most likely goes something like this: Hear about a friend’s pup making great strides with CBD, research CBD for dogs, have a broad understanding of CBD and dogs, but overall still a little unsure of how we can make it work for our pet.

We know you’ve done some research, but we thought we’d talk about some facts that might surprise you!

1. Dogs Have an Endocannabinoid System Too

If you’re a CBD enthusiast, you know that the miracle compound is capable of astounding feats because we have an endocannabinoid system

All mammals have an Endocannabinoid system. This system functions to maintain homeostasis in the body by sending signals to the CB1 and CB2 receptors. These receptors are inside the cells looking out for that particular area of the body to make sure it’s on track and functioning as it should be.

The CB1 receptor maintains the gastrointestinal tract, brain, muscles, lungs, vascular system, and the reproductive system.

The CB2 receptors maintain the spleen, skin, bones, and lungs.

And interestingly, both the CB1 and CB2 receptors work together to maintain the liver, pancreas, gall bladder, bone marrow, and brain stem.

Overall, the relationship between the cannabinoids, endocannabinoid system, and the CB1 and CB2 receptors is the driving force of the effectiveness of the CBD product.

2. They Won’t Be “High”

Some are hesitant to give their dog CBD because they think it might make them feel high or out of their comfort zone. This is certainly far from the truth because CBD is non-psychoactive within its natural state. It doesn’t possess enough THC content to get anyone “high”—dogs included.

CBD, by definition, contains less than 0.3% THC, and some products (broad-spectrum or CBD isolate) contain 0% THC.

So, no, your dog won’t experience any intoxicating effects. But, he will be so chill that you might wonder what’s happened to him.

That’ll be an easy question to answer—CBD!

3. There Are Many Ways To Give Them CBD

Don’t get too fixated on how you’re going to get your pup to take CBD. There are many ways to get that done!

The funny thing about dogs is that when they see you doing something “different” around their bowl, they tend to become super curious!

What are they doing? Is it something new? I need to know!

Before you can drop that bowl into place, they’re already nose-deep, trying to replace their curiosity with a new taste.

The most popular CBD dog products are treats and tinctures, and you can get creative with how you give the tincture to them!

4. They Won’t Chase Down The Mail Guy Anymore

Does your pup think they’re a canine-trained mercenary there to protect every inch of your home?

That’s because your dog sees the home as its “den” area and the family as their “pack.” They can become very territorial, and higher levels of aggression can emerge if the behavior is overlooked or ignored.

You know we’ve all upped our online shopping recently. Therefore, you want to stay on good terms with all the delivery guys, and baby Kujo isn’t going to keep things running smoothly unless you get him some CBD!

5. Works Well With Training Reward System

Perhaps, one of the hardest parts of being a pet parent is training your pup. You have to be consistent and firm with your training, or you’ll just be repeating the process over and over until you both figure it out.

Since pups can be so rambunctious and often go with their “first-mind,” we need to provide a reward system that inspires them to do better!

You can find some CBD treats that you and Fido like, or you can make your own!

6. Makes Doggie Social Interactions Easier

If you’ve had a few dogs in your life, you know that they have their own personalities, and those personalities are evident in the dog park!

You’ve got the bully’s, the shy ones that warm up, and the super timid ones that were ready to go before they hit the dirt.

Socialization is vital for dogs, especially when they’re younger. It teaches them how to handle social situations and interactions with other dogs. When it doesn’t happen, they might later experience social anxiety or even aggression based on fear of the situation.

A little CBD before these types of social interactions will help them ease into the scene and make some furry friends of their own!

7. Car Rides You Both Can Enjoy Again

Some dogs love the car and others like it, but something within their body chemistry doesn’t agree!

They might be too excited and jump from every corner of the car before you’ve even made it down the street. Or, maybe it’s quite the opposite, and they shrivel up with fear?

Either way, CBD allows you both to ride with comfort and ease! Because let’s face it, it’s hard to focus on the road ahead when they’re either jumping all over you or you’re scared they might give up their breakfast in the backseat!

Key Things To Keep in Mind

Some of us know our pets well, but some of us are still trying to figure them out. It takes time to forge any kind of relationship—even with our dogs.

We’ve all had our dog stare at us for so long that they seem to be trying to speak to us telepathically!

We know they want something, but we don’t always know how to figure it out.

At the end of the day, CBD can make life just a little easier for you and your pup!

Did you know?

The strength of the CBD needed (500mg, 1000mg, and 1500mg) will depend on the dog.
