Staying healthy during quarantine consists of more than just frequently applying hand sanitizer. Lockdown calls for a certain strength in health – one that boosts our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. There are many facets to health, and it can become difficult to navigate. That’s why we have compiled a list of steps for you to consider during these uncertain times, so you can remain the best version of yourself all the way through to the end!
Choosing to eat healthy will boost your immune system. We know it’s tempting to eat unhealthy food – all those delicious quarantine snacks you stocked up on stare at you while you are trying to find something to eat, but you have to remember, the food you ingest acts as a shield. Would you rather have a weak or a strong line of defense? Since we can agree that we need all the defense we can get right now, eating a variety of healthy foods is extremely important. Switching simple carbs for complex ones, as well as artificial sugars for more natural options, will make a huge difference in the way your body fends off toxins. Not to mention, a few of these minor switches will not only help fight off anything from the outside world the body does not like, but they will also improve functioning in other areas, boosting your all-around health!
Keeping your home clean is essential when staying healthy during these uncertain times. No one needs to be inhaling dust right now or allowing unwelcomed bacteria into their home. Protect your space as well as yourself by cleaning a little more than you normally would. Cleaning doesn’t have to have a negative connotation either. You know the difference between walking into a clean, pleasant-smelling room versus one with dust and things out of place. Which one do you feel happiest in? Exactly, so work toward that clean space and you are certain to feel much better. Don’t forget to clean your doorknobs and light switches – those are what harbor a lot of germs.
Finding a Hobby
Keeping sane during this long lockdown is important. A great way to stay on track while letting your creativity shine is by working on side projects that make your soul happy. Hobbies come in all shapes and sizes, so whatever you want to do, go for it! Remember that old childhood dream of learning to play the guitar? Now’s the time to try it out! Who cares – during a lockdown such as this, all you have is time. If you aren’t sure what hobby you should pick up, try closing your eyes and imagining yourself participating in multiple activities. Which one do you see yourself having the most fun in? These hobbies will keep you going and give structure to your day, and who knows – maybe it’ll stick with you after quarantine! It’s always great to keep the mind busy and focused on things you love.
Exercising can be difficult – especially now that all the gyms are closed. Not all of us have ideal backyards for exercising, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get in the perfect at-home workouts. This is a time to work around those roadblocks! All you really need is a laptop and some wifi. Right now, many if not all YouTube fitness pages are uploading ‘at home’ workout videos. More often than not, these videos cover exercises that don’t require equipment, making it easy for you to get in some needed activity and get your heart pumping while working around a quick gym setup. If workouts via computer aren’t your style, try going outside for a walk!
Getting Some Fresh Air
Setting aside time each day to go for a small walk around the neighborhood can have a huge impact on your daily mood. The fresh air will deliver oxygen to you that you’d be missing out on by staying in your house all day. This will enliven your body and boost your brain functioning. While you’re out walking, make an effort to take in your surroundings. Being in stillness and intently listening to the world around you will allow your body to achieve greater focus. Once you are finished with your walk, you will be amazed by how easily you can work on projects around the house without being affected by the usual distractions. The fresh air will zap some energy into your soul as well, allowing you to return home feeling refreshed and ready for the next task.
Making Time for Yourself
Carving out time for yourself will allow you to feel refreshed and loved. Focusing on a few special things that you love to do will be important during this time; you should always remind yourself how special you are. It could be as simple as putting on a nice outfit even though there’s nowhere to go, or throwing on a CBDfx face mask and listening to music. Doing some acts of service for yourself will enforce this and make the rest of your day feel fulfilling. Not to mention, it will help keep your confidence levels sky high! This time especially can be difficult for those who deal with mental health problems. Showing yourself you care and are worth it will be a great step in keeping yourself level headed as you go about your day.
Getting Ahead in Your Career
Knowledge is a gift that you need to grind to earn, and there are most likely skills you can be working on during quarantine to add value to your career. There are many online resources where you can acquire this knowledge: podcasts, e-books, Google Scholar journals and much more! For the most part, these sources are free, meaning that there isn’t much of an excuse to not get your mind fired up and keep it healthy during this slow quarantine. You’ll be more prepared than ever once world affairs begin picking back up!
Calling Your Friends and Family
Staying connected during isolation plays a huge part in maintaining your health and happiness. Check in on family members and friends, even those you don’t typically talk to as much. These out-of-the-blue calls will more than likely be well received, since it shows them that you’ve been thinking about them and their health. Reminisce about past memories and experiences, or perhaps create new ones! There are many apps that allow calls or video chats simultaneously. Play games and have a virtual game night with your friends! This will be a great way to get around stay-in orders and allow you all to share in some laughter!
If you follow these steps, you’ll get much closer to experiencing peak mental, physical and emotional health! Though an essential yet obvious step, staying home will help cut the quarantine length down. Washing your hands well after coming back from the grocery store or another essential errand is necessary. Beyond that, be sure not to wear your shoes past the door! Microorganisms get trapped on the bottoms of your shoes, and you don’t need those in your home right now. We hope you can implement some of these tips in order to improve your daily quarantine life!
