You may have noticed that humans have a tendency to overthink things. We know all too well how easy it is to get into this habit. Now, with the emergence of COVID-19, we’ve all been given lots to overthink about. Those back-and-forth thoughts that have plagued your mind are going to finally come to a halt when you try out the tips in this helpful blog.
Sometimes we need some assistance when it comes to calming down, especially at moments like these when everything seems to be happening at once. In uncertain times, it is difficult to decipher what is going on. The narratives produced by the media take various turns depending on your source of information, and even though you want to be prepared for anything that comes your way, sometimes you are not even sure what to prepare for. The coronavirus is touching all of our lives in one way or another, and we are forced to decide quickly how we should be reacting. Yet, one aspect we can all agree on is the importance of social distancing, also known as “staying home and chilling”.
The irony is not lost on us. How are we, as human beings designed to seek out information and socialize whenever possible, supposed to stay confined to our homes and relax while there is a pandemic brewing outside our front doors? Yet, now is certainly the time to rise to the occasion. Though we cannot control what is happening outside of our windows, we can control how we personally approach this world issue.
It can be difficult to cope in a difficult situation such as this, but you need to allow yourself the grace to relax as much as possible, so as to prevent yourself from getting hurt in any way. The lack of balance that often comes with personal mismanagement can cause harm in the long run, and we want you to come out of this pandemic better than ever. Keep your mind off of the virus and your quarantine snacks by instituting daily “me time.” Once your body is calm and you have put yourself into a better frame of mind, you will be able to better understand the outbreak and determine what the best course of action would be for you. The first step in this process is to relax your mind, preventing it from fixating on any of the negatives in your life. There are countless objects and activities in your home that could easily occupy your mind instead!
Let’s dive into some possible activities you can enjoy to get your mind off of things. You will want to calm your nervous system which, understandably, might be a bit on edge from all the commotion. There are many ways to do this, but getting into a good headspace is key. One way to relax your mind and body is by finding a comfy spot on the couch and applying a face mask. The lovely fragrances emanating from the mask will send you on an aromatic adventure, while the topical ingredients in the mask penetrate and soften your skin, giving it a supple appearance. These goals could include performing a certain amount of pushups each day, sending out all of your work emails every week, or even getting ahead in your field by picking up leadership skills and gathering helpful information about your line of work. Visualize how you want your new self to be; write these objectives down and tape them to your wall so that you can’t ignore them.
