What Is CBD Isolate?

CBD isolate is the purest form of CBD, with all other cannabis material removed. It requires multiple rounds of processing to get from initial extraction from the hemp plant to the final CBD isolate powder. First, the CBD is extracted from the cannabis hemp plant’s buds, leaves, and stalks. This oil extract is called full spectrum CBD, and it contains all of the cannabinoids (including CBD, CBG, CBN, and trace amounts of THC), terpenes, flavonoids, and healthy fatty acids of the hemp plant. Broad spectrum CBD is created when the aforementioned full spectrum oil is filtered to remove the trace amounts of THC. While some other hemp content is also filtered out in the process, the resulting CBD oil still retains a robust profile of cannabinoids and other hemp matter.

CBD isolate is created when all of the other hemp compounds are removed from the CBD oil. CBD isolates are distilled by means of a process called winterization, which removes the lipids and plant waxes from the CBD oil. Next, the acidic form of CBD (CBDA) is converted to CBD by means of decarboxylation. Then, the concentrated CBD is mixed with a non-polar solvent in a reactor. This distillate solution is heated and cooled to precipitate pure CBD in crystal form, the same way that sugar precipitates out of water when you make rock candy. This isolated CBD precipitate is then washed with the same non-polar solvent in the reactor to purify the CBD of anything that isn’t CBD (cannabidiol). The isolate is then placed into a vacuum oven for 48 hours to purge the isolate of all solvents that were used in the isolation process.

The end result is a crystal CBD distillate powder that is solvent-free and 99% pure CBD. In its isolate form, the CBD dissolves easily and is odorless and flavorless, making isolate ideal for people who don’t like the taste or smell of cannabis hemp. One of the other benefits of this pure CBD experience is that, in the absence of the cannabis hemp plant’s terpenes, the smell and flavor canvas of your CBD product is completely clean, allowing the natural vape oil flavors and bath bomb scents to shine.

CBD Isolate vs Full Spectrum CBD

Full spectrum CBD products contain all of the cannabinoids (including CBD, CBG, and trace amounts of THC), terpenes and flavonoids of the hemp plant. The benefit of this form of CBD oil is that all of these different hemp compounds can work together to make your CBD experience much deeper. This happens due to a phenomenon known as the Entourage Effect, wherein CBD and the other cannabis compounds don’t merely work in parallel with one another, but instead actually bolster each other’s effect on the mind and body.

CBD isolate products contain only CBD, with no other hemp plant matter. For some people, CBD isolate is the preferred form of CBD oil (or in this case, powder) because it doesn’t contain even the tiniest trace amounts of THC. So, when you take an isolate product, there’s almost no chance you’ll get a false-positive result on a drug test.

Because CBD isolate removes not only cannabinoids, but also terpenes and flavonoids, it has no scent or flavor. This makes CBD isolate ideal for mixing in vape oil e-liquids (like our CBD Vape Juice), because it allows only the natural flavors to tickle your taste palate, with no harsh hemp taste to overwhelm it. Likewise, in a product like CBD Bath Bombs, you can fully enjoy the aromatherapeutic effects of spearmint oil, eucalyptus oil, lavender oil, and other natural botanicals without any harsh hemp scents.

How to Use CBD Isolate

We carry two different kinds of products containing CBD isolate. The first group of isolates are in the vape oil category. Our CBD Vape Juice and CBD Terpene Vape Liquids both give you the pure CBD experience of isolates. Without the hemp terpenes and flavonoids present, your senses can focus on the scent and taste of the natural ingredients — which come in a rainbow of flavors, from Blue Raspberry and Fresh Mint to cannabis classics like Pineapple Express and OG Kush, and beyond.

CBD Bath Bombs are a great way to pamper your skin and absorb the calming wellness benefits of CBD in its pure isolate form. Our CBD Soothing Lavender Bath Bomb combines 200mg of CBD isolate with relaxing lavender oil, plus Hawaiian black salt to soften and detoxify the skin. Our CBD Recharge Eucalyptus Bath Bomb also features 200mg of 99% pure CBD isolate, with an invigorating blend of eucalyptus and other natural ingredients formulated to help energize and uplift your body and mind. With only natural ingredients and no dyes or artificial fragrances, our CBD isolate bath bombs provide luxurious indulgence for your senses without staining your tub or irritating your skin.

How CBDfx Makes CBD Isolate

At CBDfx, all of our CBD is organically grown and contains no pesticides, heavy metals, or other harmful chemicals. In addition, our CBD oil is extracted from the hemp plant by means of clean CO2, which leaves no solvent residues in the oil as with other, cheaper methods. All of this can be verified by looking at the independent, third-party lab reports we provide for all of our CBD products. At CBDfx, your safety and satisfaction are our top priority!

Frequently Asked Questions

Isolate CBD contains all the calming properties users expect in a CBD product. In a CBD Bath Bomb, this is especially helpful as you relax and unwind in the tub. In a CBD oil vaping product, the isolate also helps you to gently relax the mind.

Because isolate CBD doesn’t contain THC, CBG, or any other cannabinoids (as well as terpenes and flavonoids) it doesn’t produce the Entourage Effect. So, the effects of an isolate are less intense than more robust forms of CBD oil.

We cannot, by law, recommend any CBD product for medical purposes. We can tell you that CBD helps to calm the mind and body, which makes it great for reducing stress that can lead to anxiety. While isolate products can produce these calming effects, you may not find them as pronounced as you would with a broad spectrum CBD or full spectrum CBD product.

CBD is non-toxic, so you can’t really overdose with it. In fact, a 2017 study showed that you can take up to 1500mg of CBD in a 24-hour period. However, even with an isolate product, you would probably fall asleep long before you could get close to 1500mg of CBD. Nevertheless, we recommend for all of our CBD products that you adhere to the recommended serving size.

No. All CBD products are derived from the hemp plant, which is the low-THC form of cannabis (less than 0.3% THC). There is so little THC in hemp that it is non-intoxicating. CBD isolate removes even those tiny trace amounts of THC, making it 99% pure CBD.

All THC has been removed from CBD isolate (as well as all hemp plant matter, except for the CBD itself). Of the three types of CBD found in CBD products — full spectrum CBD, broad spectrum CBD, and CBD isolate — isolate is your best bet for not testing positive on a drug test.

We mentioned that full spectrum CBD contains all of the compounds of the hemp plant. When this CBD oil is filtered to remove the THC, the resulting oil is called broad spectrum CBD oil. Broad spectrum CBD still retains nearly all of the cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids of the hemp plant (minus the THC). CBD isolate, as mentioned, has all of those other hemp compounds filtered out, as well, leaving you with 99% pure CBD.
