As cannabis and cannabis-related products gain more and more traction due to changing laws, many people are left wondering what exactly these products do, how they are used, and what the benefits are. Specifically, people want to know more about cannabidiol (CBD) hemp oil. As there are many misconceptions about CBD oil, we would like to clear the air by answering some of the questions that we frequently hear.

We don’t want to point fingers, but a lot of the brands in the industry are using whole plant extract from US grown hemp. The products may be fine in terms of quality, but they are less compliant than our lineup of products. That is the main difference between our products and the competing brands. We honestly believe that hemp CBD oil can change people’s lives and the world in which we live. Let’s get started

So, What is CBD Oil?

One of the biggest misconceptions about CBD oil lies in the active chemical. Although cannabidiol is one of the most prevalent chemical compounds in the cannabis plant, it is not the chemical compound that people use to alter their minds (that’s tetrahydrocannabinol). What that means is that people do not use CBD oil to get “high” because the cannabidiol chemical just does not do that. It’s a separate compound.

However, CBD does influence people’s bodies. Although users will not become intoxicated from CBD oil, it does produce a sense of relaxation and shows a lot of promise as an:

  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Antioxidant
  • Neuroprotectant
  • Anxiolytic
  • Antidepressant
  • Analgesic
  • Anti-tumoral agent
  • Anti-psychotic

Although CBD shows a lot of promise in treating common disorders, it has long been overlooked due to the psychoactive compounds of THC.

Where Does CBD Oil Come From?

CBD oil is derived from the hemp plant. That much is clear. However, the law in the United States has made the production and distribution of hemp and hemp-related products quite difficult.

That’s because, on the federal level, growing hemp for commercial purposes in the United States is illegal. While this is slowly shifting (hemp has been planted in places like Kentucky, West Virginia, and Minnesota for the first time in a long time), there still is not nearly enough in production to meet consumer demand.

That’s why the hemp products that you see for sale in the United States have been produced in different countries around the world. As this industry is worth hundreds of millions of dollars, American legislators are finally starting to see the benefits of legalizing hemp production in the United States.

Since hemp is a source for many renewable types of products, it’s changing the way that we look at American agriculture. Although you can buy CBD oil in the United States, much of it is produced in other countries. However, that is slowly changing.

How Does CBD Oil Work?

Found within the resin glands of the female cannabis plant, CBD is just one of more than 80 chemical compounds known as cannabinoids. Within your body, you have cannabinoid receptors. When you consume a cannabinoid, these receptors take the chemical into your body.

These receptors are found all over your body from your central nervous system to your skin, digestive tract, and reproductive organs. These receptors in your body are collectively known as the endocannabinoid system (ECS). This vast network plays a part in nearly everything, including:

  • Mood
  • Memory
  • Motor control
  • Immune function
  • Reproduction
  • Pain perception
  • Appetite
  • Sleep
  • Bone development

The main four purposes of the ECS are neuroprotection, stress recovery, immune balance, and homeostatic regulation (optimum energy balance). CBD has the potential to tap into this energy balance to help people fight through problems such as seizures and shakes.

An Impressive Case Study on CBD Oil

Although CBD oil use in children is controversial, studies have shown that CBD oil can relieve symptoms of many different disorders. In one specific study, researchers gathered children with Dravet syndrome, a rare (and often deadly) form of epilepsy to study the effects of CBD oil on the disorder. The children with Dravet syndrome have violent seizures that can damage their brain, and there is no known cure.

In the study, the researchers gave half of the group CBD oil, and the other half received a placebo.

What the researchers found was quite impressive.

"Seizure frequency dropped in the cannabidiol-treated group by 39 percent from nearly 12 convulsive seizures per month before the study to about six; three patients' seizures stopped entirely," the team wrote in the New England Journal of Medicine.

"In the placebo group, there was a 13 percent reduction in seizures from about 15 monthly seizures to 14," they added.

"Quite remarkably, 5 percent of the children in the active treatment group with CBD were completely seizure free during the 14 weeks of the trial," Devinsky said.
"And these were kids who were often having dozens of seizures, if not many more than that per week."

Although it’s not yet clear exactly how CBD oil works in the body, it is clear that there are significant opportunities to treat serious disorders with the medicine.

Other Uses of CBD Oil

Although the Dravet syndrome case study is one of the more prominent cases, CBD oil has a wide variety of uses for other disorders as well. While there is still a lack of serious cases, many patients find relief in CBD oil. This includes:

  • Cancer
  • Diabetes
  • Lups
  • Motor disorders
  • Nicotine addiction
  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • Chronic and neuropathic pain
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
  • Osteoporosis
  • Schizophrenia and psychotic disorders
  • Anxiety

The main thing holding back CBD oil now is the lack of meaningful studies on the patients who are using the medicine. However, this is set to change as the federal government continues to ease its restrictions on cannabis and cannabis-related products. In the meantime, be sure to read as many CBD oil reviews as possible before purchasing your products to make sure that you’re getting pure CBD oil.
