CBD oil tinctures are sublingual tinctures that contain CBD oil extract and, usually, a carrier oil to help with absorption. Tinctures are usually administered with a dropper and placed under the tongue, where they are absorbed into the bloodstream.

How CBD Oil Is Made

CBD oil is the oil that is extracted from the leaves, stalks, and buds of the hemp plant. This oil not only contains cannabinoids, like CBD and THC, but also healthful terpenes and flavonoids. CBD tinctures are created by mixing this hemp extract with a carrier oil, like MCT oil. 

Types of CBD Oil: Full Spectrum vs Broad Spectrum

There are different kinds of CBD oil, which can affect how your tincture hits. Full spectrum CBD is the oil that is initially extracted from the cannabis hemp plant, containing all of the plant’s cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. Broad spectrum CBD is the exact same oil as full spectrum oil, only with the detectable amounts of THC filtered out (along with some other compounds in the process). Both are robust oils, bursting with wellness-boosting hemp compounds.

How to Take CBD Oil Drops

2. Place the drops under your tongue and hold for 60 seconds before swallowing.
3. Understand the effects of your product and remember that sublingual oil can take 15–30 minutes to kick in.

How Long Does CBD Oil Take to Work?

Taken under the tongue, CBD oil produces effects for most people within 15 to 30 minutes. That’s not quite as quickly as inhalables, like CBD vapes, but much quicker than edibles, which have to pass through the digestive system before being absorbed into the bloodstream.

CBD Oil vs Gummies

Sublingual CBD oil tinctures generally take 15 to 30 minutes to kick in, and the effects last four to six hours for most people. Edibles, like CBD gummies, generally take 30 minutes to two hours to kick in, but the effects can last six to eight hours. In addition, CBD oil servings can be customized as you see fit, while gummies deliver a uniform serving in each pre-dosed gummy.

CBD Oil vs Capsules

Minus the delicious flavor of gummies, CBD capsules compare similarly to CBD gummies in terms of effects, since they’re both edibles. That means they take longer than tinctures for the effects to kick in, but their effects last a bit longer than those of CBD oil tinctures.

Which Option Is Best for You?

This all comes down to personal preference. If you prefer your CBD on the go and in a pre-dosed product, then gummies or capsules might be the best choice for you.
