How to Prevent Building a CBD Tolerance

They say all good things come to an end, but this doesn’t have to be true if you learn how to prevent building a CBD tolerance.

When using CBD, you might hit a point where start to wonder why it isn’t working like it used to. And if you’re new, you’ll be curious about what happened and turn to a Google search to figure it out.

Our bodies can build a tolerance to almost anything we regularly consume—coffee, alcohol, pharmaceuticals, etc. As a result, the brain and the liver are to blame for your increased tolerance.

It’s going to get a bit scientific but let’s explore the concept of tolerance building and more importantly, how to prevent it.

How Does the Body Build Up a Tolerance to CBD?

We need to understand the relationship between the human body, cannabinoids, and the endocannabinoid system when exploring how the body builds tolerance.

Let’s go back to the brain and how it binds to CB1 and CB2 receptors as part of the process. This capability lessens with prolonged use of CBD or any substance we take for an extended period of time. When your body becomes more tolerant of CBD, these receptors are directly affected.

The endocannabinoid system consists of many different receptors throughout the body. Furthermore, its primary function is to maintain homeostasis. This is made possible through its communication with key receptors of cells throughout the body.

These elements work together to produce the therapeutic effects CBD is well-known for. And for some of us, our systems get accustomed to CBD quickly, hence the reduced result.

But this isn’t the case for everyone.

What’s a Reverse Tolerance?

As we know by now, CBD affects us all differently based on various factors such as age, weight, metabolism, etc.

Some people build a tolerance after using a product, but others experience the opposite effect, known as reverse tolerance

How can you tell if you’re experiencing reverse tolerance?

This typically happens when someone starts having adverse reactions to the amount of CBD they usually consume. The body develops a reverse tolerance and no longer needs the same amount to achieve its desired result.

You’ll notice it when the usual amount of CBD that makes you sleepy causes intestinal discomfort, dry mouth, etc. If you’ve noticed this type of activity, try reducing your daily serving amount and see how it helps. You may be one of the few people who experience reverse tolerance.

So, How Do You Prevent Building a CBD Tolerance?

Well, to start…

Cut Back on Your Consumption

We all have our routines and regimens when it comes to CBD consumption. It’s a personal process and involves a bit of experimentation to figure out what works best for you.

For those of us who take CBD daily, it’s hard to keep up with this process, but here’s a trick you can use in the future. Instead of taking CBD every day, create an alternating schedule.

This sporadic schedule will keep the receptors alert and ready to bind when necessary, as opposed to knowing it’s coming every day and wearing the reaction down.

Or, if you want to make sure you’re genuinely reducing the chances of building a tolerance, you can take breaks from CBD altogether.

Additionally, when you cut back on consumption, you’re making sure your CBD works best when it’s genuinely needed.

Rotate Your Products

We all have favorite products, especially when it comes to CBD. We know it’s tempting to stick with the same CBD gummy every day because it’s delicious, and it works well, but this is precisely how you build a tolerance.

And soon, your favorite will be meaningless because it won’t be able to work its magic any longer. This is why it’s beneficial to rotate different products. This is helpful because other products have different concentrations, bioavailability, and more.

Who knows, you may start to love the idea of variety with your CBD product line-up?

Try Lower Concentrations

A lot of times, people have no idea if they’re taking the right concentration—this is particularly prevalent with CBD tinctures.

If you want to prevent building a CBD tolerance, try out products with lower concentrations. This keeps your system alert because having too many cannabinoids in the system unnecessarily can “dull” the body’s response.

Exercise More

Yes, another reason to exercise. When we engage in exercise, we burn fat cells, and those fat cells store cannabinoids. Our bodies naturally produce cannabinoids, and some have more than others.

However, when we burn off some extra cannabinoids, we ensure our system isn’t overloaded.

Looking Into a Tolerance-Free Future

From the very beginning, you have to understand how your body interacts with CBD and monitor your intake to know when to increase or decrease your serving amount.

However, when used optimally, CBD is a game-changer and worth the effort!
